Sports nutrition consultation
Her city bike is parked in front of the large garage door at Vélo Cartel. She has just returned from a weekend of cycle touring in the hills of Charlevoix. From accomplished swimmer to avid cyclist, nutritionist Catherine T. Guy seems to have completed her transformation. She owes this change to triathlon, which gave her her first real thrill on two wheels.
"I love the experience that comes with cycling: exploring new roads, discovering myself through effort, pushing myself beyond my limits, the feeling of fulfillment after a long Ride," she says. "And then there's the idea of little destinations, which I also enjoy: a coffee ride, going out for ice cream..." Her smile betrays a feeling that drives her, a love of cycling that makes her happy just to think about.
Here she is, adding her enthusiasm to ours, a new collaborator working within the Vélo Cartel orbit Vélo Cartel a nutritionist.
The mystery of food
"I know that nutrition is the bane of many athletes' lives, something they don't understand and neglect," says Catherine.
This is also what we have observed among our clientele, and we sought to offer expert advice rather than generic recommendations, which lack personalization.
This is the kind of individual assessment, monitoring, and recommendations that Catherine will offer. "I'll be able to help people who exercise and simply want to eat better on a daily basis or receive support in losing weight, but also athletes who want to optimize their diet to get the most out of it," she explains with the same enthusiasm she shows when talking about cycling.
Dispelling myths
"What interests me about sports nutrition is that there is a lot of research and documentation available, and that results can vary slightly from person to person," she continues. "There are myths to dispel and ingrained habits that sometimes need to be rethought."
Should you stuff yourself with gels before a workout? How can you overcome stomach discomfort during long, sustained efforts? How can you incorporate new performance foods? What should you eat and when, to give yourself the best chance of achieving your goals?
